Why we do rescue

    Why We Do It

Do you remember the first time you helped a person or family pick out the "perfect" dog for them?

Remember the woman you ran into out of the blue, whom had adopted from you in the past, who was so excited to see you, and tell you how much she just oves her dog? She wanted to stop you just to tell you how grateful she is, because she can't imagine her life without him now.

What about the dog you see that you once placed. Perhaps he was shy, confused, scared. Now he's happy, tail wagging, head high, and a sparkle in his eye as he looks at his beloved owner.

There's the widower, who's long time companion dog has recently died, and he is looking for a new dog to share his life with. He doesn't want a puppy -- he wants an older dog, and when he leaves hours later, it is not alone, but with the dog he has already made an incredible bond with. That dog you've had for months, whom no one wanted to look at, because she is 8 years old.

Even the young couple who think they know what they want, but who are receptive to an honest discussion about what they're getting into. Turns out that your breed is not the one for them, but during the conversation you discover that what they really are after might be found at your friend's rescue group. You make the referal, and find out later that the family adopted the perfect dog for them, from your friend's group.

Then there are the stories that people share with you, of the dogs that they've lived with and loved over the years. Tales of profound devotion and loyalty, both on the part of the dogs, and the people.

And the eyes that look at you one last time, as the dog goes with it's new person to it's new home. They say, "I knew you could do it. I knew you wouldn't let me down. Thanks for giving me a chance." The smile on the face of the person, and the dog, that you'll never see again because they are meant for each other. You helped them find what they were meant to find.
